Welcome to Incarnate Beauty, the online home of the iconography and ministry of Sister Hilda Kleiman, OSB. Through making icons, teaching, and offering talks and retreats, I offer my love of the icon and the visual arts, helping to meet the need for beauty and prayer in our homes, churches, and places of work.
The posts on Incarnate Beauty illustrate my work on my current icons and work with my students at Mount Angel Seminary. I also publish reflections on the process of art, writing, teaching, and life within a Benedictine community. I post additional photos on Instagram.
The rotating commonplace book passages on Incarnate Beauty are drawn from my reading, including but not limited to iconography and the visual arts, theology, literature, and ancestral health and natural movement.
I have been a member Queen of Angels Monastery in Mount Angel, Oregon, for thirteen years and a member of the faculty of Mount Angel Seminary for six years.
Prior to entering the monastery, I did my undergraduate work in English at Western Oregon University and an MA in English at Oregon State University. I hold an MA in Theology from Mount Angel Seminary and a D.Min from the Graduate Theological Foundation.
Since 2009 I have been a student and studio assistant with the Iconographic Arts Institute, and I study individually with master iconographer Mary Katsilometes.
