The Threshold of Art: A Capstone Project

by Sister Hilda Kleiman, OSB

This spring, Juan Carlos Orozco, a fourth-year college seminarian studying for the Archdiocese of Seattle, presented his capstone project to the community of Mount Angel Seminary.  With the capstone project, students focus on a topic of particular interest to them and integrate their areas of study within the college curriculum.

Orozco's project is entitled The Threshold of Art: A Spiritual Anthropology of Consciousness through Upper Paleolithic Cave Paintings.  His thesis statement argues that "the origin of art manifests the spiritual nature of the human person who, at the threshold of reflection, began a desire for transcendence, a desire that continues to evolve into consciousness."

The Threshold of Art, as well as several other excellent 2015 capstone projects, will be available through the Mount Angel Abbey Library later this summer.
